Australia to London, Non-Stop: Qantas Makes Aviation History
For the first time ever, travellers will be able to fly non-stop from Sydney to London, with Qantas confirming the launch of its history-making Project Sunrise services from October 2027.
The landmark route will eliminate the traditional stopover and cut up to four hours from the journey, marking a major evolution of the iconic Kangaroo Route that has connected Australia and the UK since 1947.
Making these ultra-long-haul flights possible is the brand-new Airbus A350-1000ULR, purpose-built for Project Sunrise. The aircraft features an additional 20,000-litre fuel tank, allowing it to travel more than 16,000 kilometres and remain airborne for up to 22 hours non-stop.
Qantas will take delivery of 12 of the specially designed aircraft, each configured with just 238 seats across four cabins to maximise passenger comfort on the world’s longest flights.

The airline says the onboard experience has been developed specifically for ultra-long-haul travel, with cabin features designed to improve wellbeing, reduce jetlag and create a more comfortable journey from take-off to touchdown.

Sydney to London will be the first Project Sunrise route, with Sydney to New York expected to follow.
For Australians heading to Europe, this newservice represents a game-changing travel option, making one of the world’s most popular routes faster, simpler and more convenient than ever before.
