U.S. Customs and Border Protection

USA Tightens Entry Requirements. Here’s what Aussie travellers need to know

USA Travel Advice & Safety updates for travellers to the United States as entry protocols tighten for International travellers.

If you’re heading to the United States, it’s more important than ever to understand the latest entry and border inspection procedures.

US authorities maintain wide discretion when determining a traveller’s eligibility to enter the country. This applies to all travellers, whether you’re visiting on a visa or via the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA). Entry is not automatically guaranteed and decisions are made at the discretion of border officials based on US law.

Travellers are advised to familiarise themselves with all relevant entry, registration, transit and exit requirements well before departure.

In addition, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) may conduct inspections of personal electronic devices, including mobile phones, laptops, cameras and tablets. These checks are part of standard border security protocols and can be carried out without prior warning.

To avoid delays or complications:

Ensure you understand the conditions of your visa or ESTA

Carry documentation that supports your travel purpose

Be aware that your digital devices may be inspected

While most visits proceed smoothly, arriving prepared helps ensure a stress-free start to your journey.

United Airlines

United Airlines expands with additional flights into the Pacific region

United Airlines today announced it intends to be the only U.S. airline to offer flights to Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with new daily service from Hong Kong planned to start this fall*.

Starting December 11, United will launch the first nonstop flights between the U.S. and Adelaide, Australia – just in time for the Australian summer. With the addition of this three times weekly seasonal service, United is now the leading carrier to Australia from the continental U.S., also offering flights to Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

In addition, United is also adding a second daily flight between San Francisco and Manila. Starting on October 25, travelers from both cities will have the option of a daytime or evening flight for greater convenience. United is the only U.S. airline to serve the Philippines, with service to both Manila and Cebu.

With these new routes, United will now offer flights from the U.S. to 32 different cities in the Pacific region – four times that of any other U.S. carrier – further cementing its status as the world’s largest airline** with the most extensive international network.

“At United, we’re changing the way people think about where they travel – by offering the greatest access to see and explore the world, whether it’s for relaxation, adventure or business,” said Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President, Global Network Planning and Alliances at United. “We offer more than the best schedule and travel options – we connect customers to sought after destinations and opportunities to explore new, vibrant cities.”

United has the largest network in the world**, including the largest international network from North America, which it continues to expand at an industry-leading pace. The airline offers approximately 500 daily flights to and from 150 international destinations for travelers around the world. This expansion reinforces United’s commitment to growing its network and bringing travelers to new destinations. The airline is also gearing up to kick off its highly anticipated Summer 2025 schedule that was announced last October.

Qantas Announces Major Upgrade for 737 Fleet with New Cabin Features

Qantas is set to transform the flying experience on its Boeing 737 fleet with an extensive cabin overhaul program. This initiative comes as part of the airline’s broader fleet renewal strategy, including the introduction of the Airbus A321XLR and A220 aircraft over the next decade.

The cabin upgrades will enhance 42 of Qantas’s 737 aircraft, introducing new Business and Economy seats, larger overhead lockers offering up to 50% more storage space, as well as full cabin refreshes with updated carpets, sidewalls, and mood lighting. The upgrades are designed to offer a modern, ‘as-new’ experience for passengers, alongside the airline’s signature fast and free Wi-Fi.

The first upgraded 737 aircraft is expected to enter service in 2027, operating on Qantas’s domestic routes, as well as to popular international destinations like Bali, Fiji and Vanuatu.

This overhaul is part of Qantas’s largest fleet renewal program in the airline’s history, complementing the introduction of next-generation aircraft like the A321XLR, which is set to enhance both Business and Economy class experiences with quieter cabins, more spacious seating and even larger overhead lockers.

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson emphasised that these upgrades, along with the introduction of new aircraft, are a testament to the airline’s commitment to delivering a top-tier flying experience for its customers, stating “This investment in cabins will also support our people who are dedicated to providing the best inflight experience to our customers.”

With over 100 new aircraft on order, Qantas looks to ensure its fleet remains modern and reflective of it’s customer base of avid domestic and international travellers alike.

Qantas to Launch Free Wi-Fi on International Flights by March 2025

Qantas to Launch Free Wi-Fi on International Flights by March 2025

Qantas is expanding its free in-flight Wi-Fi service to select international routes, starting with its Asia routes by the end of this month.

By mid-2025, satellite coverage will also be extended across the Tasman to New Zealand. Qantas’ domestic fleet, including Boeing 737s, Airbus A220s and A330s, are already equipped with the Australian NBN Sky Muster satellite network, which provides Wi-Fi service only when flying over Australia. For international flights, Qantas is upgrading to Viasat’s satellite technology to extend the service beyond Australian airspace.

This upgrade will allow Qantas to offer faster, more reliable Wi-Fi on international routes, with plans to integrate Viasat’s ViaSat-3 satellites for global coverage by 2026.

Once the system is fully installed, Qantas’ Airbus A380s, 787s, and A220s will follow, providing high-speed Wi-Fi, including for flights to major long-haul destinations like London and New York.
