EMIRATES RAMPS UP AUSTRALIAN OPERATIONS

ATPI Cruise & Travel welcomes the recent announcement by Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, that it will upgauge its second daily flight EK431/430 between Brisbane and Dubai to their flagship Airbus A380 starting with effect from 01 October 2024. The outbound flight will depart Brisbane at 01.55am and arrive into Dubai at 10.05am. This upgauge of equipment means that an additional almost 100,000 extra passengers per year will be able to travel between Queensland and Europe.

Travellers from Perth will also benefit from Emirates’ ramping up of its Australian operations, with a second daily service between Perth and Dubai being added from 01 December 2024. This service will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER and will depart Perth at 06.00am and arrive into Dubai at 13.10am. The reinstatement of Emirates’ second daily service from Perth will add another 250,000 seats per year on the Perth – Dubai route.

QANTAS TO TAKE OFF FROM THE TOP END TO SINGAPORE

Qantas has announced the relaunch of Darwin – Singapore services, commencing in December 2024. Qantas last operated non-stop flights between the city pair in 2006.

Subject to government and regulatory approval, the five-hour flights between Darwin and Singapore will operate five days per week initially and increasing to daily flights from March 2025. The route will be serviced by Embraer 190 aircraft operated for Qantas by Alliance Airlines and featuring Business Class as well as Economy Class.

The relaunched Darwin to Singapore service provides Territorians with a direct Qantas flight to/from Singapore for the first time in 18 years, as well as a seamless online connection to London Heathrow on QF1, with only a two-hour layover in Singapore.

OPENING OF STANDARD X HOTEL – MELBOURNE

Presenting a distinctive addition to the eclectic inner-suburban Melbourne neighbourhood of Fitzroy, the StandardX will open its doors in March.

A collaboration between Adelaide-based global architectural studio Woods Bagot and multi-disciplinary design practice Hecker Guthrie, the 125-room property boasts a minimalist, “modern retro” aesthetic which features polished terrazzo floors, leather couches, furniture by Danish brand Hay, bespoke artworks by Jane Sinclair and Egyptian cotton sheets on built-in beds.

The imposing rust-coloured building includes a signature fire-engine red revolving door at the entrance. For the working traveller, an open workspace off the lobby provides a comfortable environment for guests to work on their laptops beside an industrial fireplace.

Food takes centrestage with an all-day Thai diner called Bang, led by chef Justin Dingle-Garciyya. The hotel also boasts a rooftop bar named (appropriately enough!) ‘The Roof’, exclusively available to hotel guests. This rooftop venue offers panoramic views of the city and serves Mexican-inspired dishes, including tacos, ceviche and cocktails.

SAA RESUMING FLIGHTS FROM PERTH

ATPI Cruise & Travel welcomes the recent announcement by South African Airways (SAA) of the return of flights from Perth to Johannesburg. Marking a significant development for the airline, the reinstated route will be operated by an Airbus A340-300 thrice weekly and the inaugural Johannesburg – Perth flight will launch on 28 April.

Indicating a strategic focus on expanding intercontinental routes within a relatively short timeframe, the Perth – Johannesburg route follows the successful return of SAA to Brazil late last year, with the Cape Town – São Paulo route being launched on 31 October 2023 and Johannesburg to São Paulo the following week. The return of the Perth route aligns with SAA’s strategic plans to scale operations to a profitable level and represents a significant step in the airline’s efforts to regain its position in the global aviation sector.

The route will mean that Cape Town, Durban, Accra, Lusaka, Windhoek, Kinshasa, Harare and Lagos will only require two-flights for passengers departing from Perth. With Victoria Falls, Port Elizabeth, Mauritius and São Paulo also becoming a two-sector proposition from Perth, ATPI’s Cruise & Travel customers will benefit from the service.

MALAYSIA – NEW ENTRY PROTOCOLS

In what seems to be another case of ‘New Year, New Rules!’ in the world of international travel, all foreign, non-exempt travellers arriving into Malaysia must now have completed the new Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arriving into the country.
The MDAC has been introduced as part of Malaysia’s Visa Liberalisation Plan, which aims to attract more foreign tourists and generate incremental national income for the country.

With the exception of Singaporeans, Diplomatic and Official Passport holders, Malaysian Permanent Residents and Long-Term Pass holders, Brunei Common Certificate of Identification holders, Brunei-Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility holders, Thailand Border Pass holders and Indonesian Cross Border Pass holders, all foreign travellers must complete the MDAC within three (3) days prior to their scheduled arrival in Malaysia.

Along with passport holders from Germany, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the USA and the UK, Australians have access to autogate facilities, making the arrival process even more seamless.

Proof of submission of the MDAC will be sent to the email address you registered with the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
