Ethiopian Airlines Plans Australia Launch by 2028
Ethiopian Airlines has announced plans to launch flights to Australia in 2028, a move that would complete its ambition to operate on every continent.
Widely recognised as Africa’s largest and most connected airline, Ethiopian currently serves 145 cities across five continents. Australia remains the only continent not yet included in its global network.
The proposed expansion will depend on the airline securing at least two wide-body aircraft capable of operating ultra long haul routes. Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew confirmed that aircraft availability will ultimately determine the launch timeline, highlighting ongoing global supply chain pressures affecting the aviation industry.
Two Australian cities have already been shortlisted for the service, although the airline has not yet revealed which destinations are under consideration. A final decision will be made once suitable aircraft are secured.
If confirmed, the new route would mark a significant milestone for the airline and introduce greater connectivity between Australia and Africa.
